Getting started on Voctale: tips for your first listens

You have just signed up to Voctale and a whole catalogue is in front of you. It is the moment when it is easy to open ten tabs and choose nothing. A few pointers are enough to start on the right listen and find your feet without getting lost.

Choose your first story with a simple rule

The first tip is the most obvious and the most useful: start with something short. A story of a few minutes lets you understand how listening sounds on Voctale without asking for a long commitment. Choose by the moment in front of you: a lunch break, a commute, the evening before sleep all call for different stories.

You can go by genre or start from the free titles, which you listen to in full with nothing else. There is no need to decide right away what you will like: the first story is a trial, not a commitment.

Understand what you are listening to

On Voctale there are three kinds of listening, and knowing them helps you choose. Linear audiobooks run from start to finish; podcasts are split into episodes; interactive stories change with the choices you make. If it is your first time, a short linear one is the easiest start; the interactive you keep for when you feel like taking part in the story.

Whatever you choose, the point where you stop is saved: you can close and pick up where you were, even from another device. That takes away the worry of having to finish it all at once.

Build your habit

As you listen, add what you like to your library and gather similar titles into a reading list: it is the simplest way to find stories again and to always have one ready. Following an author you enjoyed brings you their new releases without having to look for them.

If you write, sooner or later you will want to try the other side: the guide on publishing your first story explains how. And for any question, the forum is the place to ask and see what others are listening to.
