Biography
Edgar Allan Poe was born in Boston in 1809. A master of the short story, he shaped both detective fiction and the tale of terror with works such as The Black Cat, The Fall of the House of Usher and The Gold-Bug. He was also a poet, author of The Raven, and a sharp literary critic. He died in Baltimore in 1849, in circumstances never fully explained.
