Biography

Oscar Wilde was born in Dublin in 1854. A writer and playwright, he was the leading figure of English aestheticism, famous for the wit of his dialogue. He is the author of the novel The Picture of Dorian Gray and of comedies such as The Importance of Being Earnest. After prison he wrote The Ballad of Reading Gaol. He died in Paris in 1900.
